A Greater Cause: Beta-Eta brothers improve Child Advocacy Center
The brothers of the Beta-Eta chapter of Kappa Sigma continue to show their dedication to the community and Auburn University through many different projects and methods. More recently, the brothers demonstrated “A Greater Cause” at the Child Advocacy Center of East Alabama in Opelika, AL. It serves children ages 3 to 17, who have been the victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, and ones who have witnessed violence. The executive director of the center, Cleone Brock, met the brothers upon arrival and explained the operation of the center. She also noted that more than 875 children a year are referred to this center, and little funding is provided.
The team of 10 brothers, which included the Grand Scribe, Grand Procurator, and the Grand Treasurer, went right to work. The brothers pulled dead bushes out, spread pine straw, trimmed the hedges and trees and cleaned the windows around the center. After the work was finished, Mrs. Brock treated the brothers to homemade muffins and lemonade, furthering the good feeling the brothers had attained for helping the community. A picture of the Beta-Eta brothers, along with a story of their service was posted on the center’s homepage. The brothers of the Beta-Eta chapter have since then decided to volunteer monthly at the center.
